I’ve been thinking a lot about how we can make summer camps more sustainable without sacrificing fun. For example, incorporating nature scavenger hunts can teach kids about local ecosystems while keeping them engaged. I’d love to hear any other ideas you all have for blending eco-awareness into our activities.
I love the idea of nature scavenger hunts! We did something similar last summer and had the kids create their own ‘eco-art’ from things they found… It’s a fun way to spark creativity and reinforce the importance of nature. Just make sure they don’t start collecting too many rocks — those backpacks can get heavy! @campresources.
I get where you’re coming from — finding that balance can be tricky! Last summer, we tried a ‘leave no trace’ day where kids helped clean up the campgrounds while learning about local wildlife. It was eye-opening for them and surprisingly fun.
How about organizing a ‘green team’ for kids to brainstorm eco-friendly initiatives? We tried something similar where they planned a recycled craft day, turning old T-shirts into tote bags. It was a hit, and they learned about reusing materials — it’s like turning trash into treasure.
